Chemical & Physical Ecology
While the natural environment already sets harsh conditions for organisms, human activities can add additional constraints to organisms and the ecosystem processes they sustain. Increasing our understanding of human influences on the environment is therefore essential to facilitate reliable and effective legislative intervention. My work ranges from developing tools and approaches to monitor ecosystem functioning and health to unravelling mechanisms by which human-induced stressors affect organisms and ecosystem processes. Collectively, my research has highlighted the importance of considering ecosystem connectivity if we want to fully understand our living environment and its vulnerability to human disturbances.
